This vehicle is powered by the improved M180 engine, an in-line 2306 cm3 6-cylinder Gasoline engine and 35/40 Watt Zenith 2 carburetor system, which produces 120 hp / 118 HP / 88 kW at 5400 rpm and a 178.5 Nm torque at 4000 rpm. Equipped with a 4-speed manual gearbox , this sedan reaches a top speed of 175 km/h and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 12.5 seconds . With a length of 4875 mm and the well-known W111 chassis, the 230 S represented the pinnacle of the development of this platform, offering higher performance than its predecessors 2.2 liters without sacrificing the simple reliability of carburetors.

Summary

The 1968 Mercedes-Benz 230 S (W111) remains one of the most popular classic limousines because of the balance between added power and mechanical simplicity. Increasing the cylinder capacity to 2.3 liters gave the vehicle greater elasticity at low laps, making it more suitable for modern highways of the time. Although winged design (Fintails) was beginning to be considered obsolete in 1968, the quality of construction was at its zenith, with interior materials that were designed to last decades. The use of Zenith ANGER carburetors requires a specific maintenance, but it is less complex than the SE version injection system, making this model a rational choice for collectors. Passive safety, ample space, and authoritarian presence on the road make the 230 S a worthy representative of Mercedes-Benz's golden age.
