Overview

1982 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE W126 (Manuals / 4 Gears) RWD [1979-1985]

The 1982 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE represents an important technological step within the W126 series, replacing the carburetor with the Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical injection system. This change increases the power of the 2.8-liter (M110) engine to 185 hp , giving this limo a much more sporty and dynamic character. The 4-speed manual gearbox version is rare for this luxury segment, but offers direct control over the six-cylinder and two-axle bumpers ( DOHC ). With an optimized wind tunnel design and high material quality, the 280 SE remains one of the most iconic cars of the 80s, combining high speed with the legendary durability of Mercedes-Benz.

Summary

Experts rate the 280 SE as the "heart" of the W126 series, as the K-Jetronic system offers high reliability and a much better gas response compared to the 280 S model. According to ProfessCars™ estimates, the performance is impressive with a top speed of 210 km/h and a 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 9.4 seconds. Measured consumption (combined 12.5 L/100km) reflects the efficiency of the M110 engine when combined with excellent chassis aerodynamics. The starting price in 1979 for this model was around 37,743 Deutsche Mark (approx. €19,300). In 1982, this model did not have a specific emission standard like Euro 1 (which was launched in 1992), therefore it is classified as N/A by modern standards.
