Overview

1999 Mercedes-Benz W163 ML 430 (Automatic / 5 Gears) 4×4 [1998-2001]

The 1999 Mercedes-Benz ML 430, offered in North America (USA) from mid-1998 to mid-1999 (W163 Phase-I), is a model of the large luxury SUV (Mid-Size) (Executive E-Segment) 5-door, permanently towed 4×4 (4Matic) . This powerful variant introduced the V8 engine to the ML series, including a 4266 cm3 V8 Gasoline engine (Daimler-Benz M113 E43) by indirect injection. The engine produces 272 hp / 268 hp / 200 kW at 5750 rpm and 391 Nm / 288 ft-lb of torque at 3000 rpm. Combined with a 5-speed automatic transmission (Daimler-Benz 5G-Tronic) , it accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.3 seconds and reaches a top speed limited to 180 km/h (theoretically 213 km/h without limitation). Its combined fuel consumption is estimated at around 15.5 L/100km . The car has a length of 4587 mm , a width of 1833 mm, a height of 1776 mm and weighs 2065 kg , with a fuel tank of 70 liters.

Summary

Mercedes-Benz ML 430 (1999) is rated by experts for the power of the V8 M113 engine, which is considered "imperishable" mechanically and offers excellent towing capabilities. However, this model suffers from the low quality of the characteristic construction for the first years of the plant in Alabama. The main disadvantages are very high fuel consumption and electrical problems. Common problems reported with the M113 engine and the W163 chassis include failure of the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) that leaves the car idling, defects of the door actuators (Machine Gun locks), destruction of the Harmonic Balancer pulley and rust on the frame.
